Road Construction Projects

Work zone, slow down, workers have families that want them around.

Mayor Matthew J. Castelli and the Middleburg Heights City Council understand that maintaining our roads is a top priority. The Middleburg Heights Department of Public Service and Director James Herron coordinates and manages the work with our City Engineer Kim Kerber of Mannik and Smith and regional partners including Cuyahoga County, the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT).

Listed below are the planned and funded 2026 Middleburg Heights Road Construction Projects. This list is updated periodically as projects are approved and funded by Middleburg Heights City Council or our outside partners.

Indian Creek Sanitary Relief Sewer Project
The project has begun and is expected to continue through October 2027.

Construction activities will include pavement and tree lawn tree removal, trench excavation, directional boring, and installation of a new relief sewer. As work progresses, new concrete pavement and driveway aprons will be installed to restore the roadway. Any trees that were unfortunately impacted by this project will be replaced.

The City is working closely with the contractor to minimize disruptions and maintain essential City services throughout the project.

Project Update: To safely accommodate construction, Indian Creek Drive will be restricted to one-way eastbound traffic between Baldwin Creek and Gerald Drive for portions of the project. Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the area, allow extra travel time, and follow all posted traffic control signs.

Mohawk Trail
RMH Concrete and Foundations, Inc was awarded the project by Middleburg Heights City Council.  Mohawk Trail will receive concrete curb and section repairs and an asphalt overlay.

Project Update: The project is scheduled to start August 10, 2026.

Smith Road (Pearl Road to W. 130^th Street)
Smith Road in the Southland business district is being completely reconfigured and reconstructed. The reimagined corridor will have on-street parking, a new multi-purpose trail, a tree lined center median, enhanced green space along the entire roadway, and new opportunities for development adjacent to Smith Road. This is a two-year project. The project started in early Summer 2024 and will be completed by Fall 2026.

 Project Update: City Council awarded project to Perk Company and started in July 2024. Final 2026 work includes installation of new light posts, pavement markings, final landscaping and irrigation.

Smith Road (Sheldon Road to Pearl Road)
Smith Road was fully repaved from Sheldon Road to Pearl Road. The curve near Stroud Road was realigned to improve traffic flow and safety. The project also included installing a new waterline near Stroud Road and a new storm sewer from Woodcreek to Stroud Road.

Project Update:   Final punch list items includes asphalt repairs, storm sewer catch basin adjustments, street striping and landscape restoration.

General Pavement Services Contract
The $500,000 General Pavement Services Contract was awarded to Crossroads Asphalt Recycling, Inc. by City Council on April 14, 2026.  Listed below are some anticipated projects.  This list will be updated as the season progresses.

Pearl Road
Crack sealing from Robert Drive to W. 130^th Street with some asphalt section repairs.

Bagley Road
Asphalt section repairs from Pearl Road to Pleasant Street.

Craigmere Drive
Asphalt repairs were completed due to a water main repair.

Engle Road
Asphalt was resurfaced from railroad tracks to Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Major Middleburg Heights Department of Public Service Projects

Hemlock Lane
Concrete and curb section repairs were completed in June 2026.

Williamsburg Court
Phase I of concrete section repairs were completed in June 2026.

Eastland Road
Concrete section repairs and installation of two new catch basins will be completed by Fall 2026.

Old Oak Boulevard
The City’s Public Service Department is repairing major sections of concrete roadway from Southwest General Health Center to Polaris and LifeWorks. All work is expected to be completed by the end of August 2026.
