Mayor Matthew J. Castelli and the Middleburg Heights City Council understand that maintaining our roads is a top priority. The Middleburg Heights Department of Public Service and Director James Herron coordinates and manages the work with our City Engineer Kim Kerber of Mackay Engineering, a Wallace Pancher Company and regional partners including Cuyahoga County, the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Listed below are the planned and funded 2024 Middleburg Heights Road Construction Projects. This list is updated periodically as projects are approved and funded by Middleburg Heights City Council or our outside partners.
Grant Boulevard (Webster Road to Dead End)
The project involves pavement planing with chip seal and asphalt overlay, concrete curb and section repairs.
Project Update: Project was awarded by City Council to Crossroads Asphalt Recycling, Inc. and work started in July 2024 and will be completed by the end of August 2024.
Arrowhead Drive
Arrowhead Drive will receive full depth pavement, curb and driveway apron removal. The street, curb and driveway aprons will be poured with concrete.
Project Update: Project was awarded by City Council to Tri-Mor Corporation and work started in July 2024 and will be completed by November 2024.
Sheldon Road (Engle Road to Smith Road)
Sheldon Road from Engle Road to Smith Road repaving work started July 1, 2024. The Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works bid and is managing the project for the cities of Middleburg Heights and Brook Park. One-way, one-lane of traffic will be maintained eastbound on Sheldon Road while westbound traffic will be detoured. Access to adjacent drives will be maintained at all times.
Project Update: Cuyahoga County awarded the project to Karvo Paving. Project is being managed by the Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works and is receiving 80% federal funding through the support of the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA). The project has a completion date of December 2024.
Smith Road (Pearl Road to W. 130th Street)
Smith Road in the Southland business district is being completely reconfigured and reconstructed. The reimagined corridor will have on-street parking, a new multi-purpose trail, a tree lined center median, enhanced green space along the entire roadway, and new opportunities for development adjacent to Smith Road. This is a two-year project. The project is starting in early Summer 2024 and will be completed by Spring 2026.
Project Update: Project was awarded by City Council to Perk Company and started in July 2024. One-way traffic is southbound on Smith Road from Pearl Road to W. 130th Street
Smith Road (Sheldon Road to Pearl Road)
Smith Road is being completely repaved from Sheldon Road to Pearl Road. The curve located near Stroud Road is being realigned for safer traffic flow and travel.
Project Update: Project is being bid and managed by the Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works. A new waterline, storm sewers, and curve realignment work near Stroud Road is tentatively scheduled to occur on Smith Road in Fall 2024. The repaving work on Smith Road will start in Spring 2025. One-way traffic only will be maintained southbound from Sheldon Road to Pearl road when the repaving work starts in Spring 2025.
General Pavement Services Contract
The City of Middleburg Heights awarded the contract to Crossroads Asphalt Recycling, Inc. in Spring 2024.
Ragall Parkway
Crossroads Asphalt Recycling, Inc. repaved the entire length of Ragall Parkway in June 2024.
Fowles Road
Fowles Road from Pearl Road to Eastland Road was crack sealed in June 2024.
Forest Oval Drive
The City of Middleburg Heights Service Department did concrete curb and section repairs and Crossroad Asphalt Recycling, Inc. completed the asphalt overlay work.
Springdale Drive
The project involves pavement planing with chip seal and asphalt overlay. The Middleburg Heights Service Department will complete the concrete curb and section repair work. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of September 2024.
