The Board of Zoning and Building Appeals consists of five members and two alternate members. The Board hears and decides upon applications for area variances and administrative appeals. An area variance is a variance from a zoning regulation that involves a measurement, such as the distance between a driveway and a property line.

An administrative appeal may be initiated by anyone alleging there is an error in a decision made by the Planning Commission, City Council acting in an administrative capacity, the Design Review Board, Building Commissioner, or another administrative official enforcing the Zoning Code. A variance to establish or expand a use of land that is not permitted by the Zoning Code will not be considered or granted by the Board of Zoning and Building Appeals.

The Board of Zoning and Building Appeals meets the Third Wednesdays of each month at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 15700 Bagley Road, when there is business to be heard. Meetings are open to the public.

Requests must be submitted at least 30 days prior to a meeting. Please see the instructions for an area variance or an administrative appeal.
