The Recreation Department offers a variety of programs, activities & special events for the entire family, from children to senior citizens.

Sandy Balzer is the Adapted Recreation Coordinator for the  Recreation Department. Sandy retired from the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities with an extensive background in recreation programming for individuals with disabilities. Youth Fitness Classes

Tae Kwon Do

The first-time student should sign up for Tae Kwon Do, the art of self-defense using the hands and feet. The instructor is a 6th degree black belt master instructor and a 1st degree black belt in judo and committed to focusing on the individual needs of each child. There is a uniform cost. Little Stars Gymnasticsrec35

This program is for boys & girls ages 18 months to 10 years old! Learn important fundamental skills and have fun along the way. No previous experience is necessary! Activities include: balance beam, bars, obstacle course & basic tumbling. The instructor is a USAG safety certified gymnastics instructor with over 17 years of experience. Magical Munchkins Tap & Ballet (Age 2-3)

This gentle introductory combination kid's dance class of tap, ballet, tumbling and games is fun, energetic, and expressive that will have your Magical Munchkin learning all the basics for their first dance class. Classes start with tap and then transition into ballet each week. Parent (or caregivers) presence required as parents participate as needed.Dancers must be at least 24 months prior to the session starting.

Tiny Movers Tap & Ballet (Age 3-4)

A combination dance class of tap and ballet with tumbling and dance games for kids. This energetic and expressive class will have your Tiny Mover learning basic dance and motor skills, musicality and rhythm to reach class goals in fun creative ways. Classes start with tap and then transition into ballet each week. This is the first ‘big girls and boys’ class as parents watch from outside of the room. Dancers are welcome to join throughout the year!

Star Shiners Tap & Ballet (Age 4.5-6)

Keep your Star Shiner moving in this tap and ballet combination class for boys and girls. This progressive class introduces curriculum goals through fun movement allowing your dancer to be challenged while expressing themselves. Dancers develop dance, listening, and coordination skills, including an emphasis on ballet terminology and technique. Classes start with tap and then transition into ballet each week. Once a month, class will get switched up with a jazz dance day!

Beat Breakers Hip Hop (Age 4-7)

Calling all boys and girls for this fun high-energy hip hop dance class! Dancers develop musicality, creativity, listening skills and coordination. This non-stop, action-packed class includes hip hop, basic break dancing, and dance games that will have your kid movin' to the beats! All music and moves are age appropriate.

Fitness Area

Our 3,300 square foot Fitness Area contains over 100 pieces of circuit training, free weights and plate loaded equipment. We also have a "cardio-theatre" system for watching TV while you're working out and a fully staffed fitness desk, complete with an AED machine for your safety.

Fitness attendants are glad to "show you the ropes." Members may track their progress on individually designed "workout logs" available at the desk. We also have certified personal trainers on staff to help you tailor your workout to your own needs!

Adult Classes

Kangoo Jumps

Experience a NEW way to exercise! Use boots to promote fat loss, increase endurance, improve strength & balance, help correct posture & optimize cardiovascular health. Pump It Up Fitness

Cardio Pumpin’ classes focus on strengthening your body while keeping your heart rate up to burn calories and increase cardiovascular conditioning. Body Pumpin’ classes focus on low weights with high reps. You’ll burn fat, calories and gain strength to quickly produce a toned, lean muscular look. Drop-in fee is $10 per class! Zumba with Sophia

Burn calories, lose inches, great music, members & non-members welcome, classes open to men, women and children over 10 with a parent! There is a $6 per class drop-in fee. Jazzercise

The original dance exercise phenomenon! Each class offers a blend of jazz dance & exercise science set to your favorite music---Top 40, jazz, country, funk & classics. Easy-to-follow, fun choreography includes a gentle warm-up, 30-minute workout, muscle toning & strengthening segment with weights ending with a stretch. Cycle It Up

Cycle your way to the ultimate fitness results. Rides are set to an upbeat soundtrack and blend technique, intervals, resistance rides, climbs and sprints. No previous cycling experience required. Ultra Cycle

This 45-minute class is a challenging, fat-blasting workout that will take you thru leg sculpting hills and speed & resistance interval flats. Each pedal pushing routine will be taught to fun energizing music! $10 per class for walk-ins. Call 216-390-9674 to register. $50 per month.

SuperFIT CLE

Twilight Yoga-is a 50-minute class open to all fitness levels, which focuses marrying breath and music to movement, beginning with a gentle vinyasa flow (sun and moon salutations) and ending with a relaxing guided meditation. KickBox Bootcamp-is a 50-minute cardio & strength training workout fused with heart-pumping music. Come trim, tone and transform your legs, arms and booty in an uplifting/welcoming environment! SuperMOM CLE

Head to toe workout incorporating cardio, strength training, and for all fitness levels. Kids are able to come with you and each class is different with fun workout themes in a supportive environment. Tai Chi Chih

Expect increased energy, better balance and stress relief from this daily practice. Can be performed seated if necessary. Vinyasa Flow Yoga

This is the core class of the SilverSneakers® Fitness Program. Lots of Choreography with hand held weights, elastic tubing with handles, a ball and a chair for balance are used!

This class is for participants who desire and are ready for a cardio workout! The format includes standing non-impact choreography designed to increase cardiovascular and muscular endurance alternated with standing upper body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball. Free to members of our Silver Sneakers program, $3 per class for non-SilverSneaker members who are members of center.

SilverSneakers® Yoga

This class is designed to physically and mentally engage members with a variety of safe and fun yoga postures and breathing exercises! SilverSneakers Stability

Stability is the newest class designed to help you become stronger and improve balance. The movements taught in class focus on specific exercises to improve strength and power around the ankle, knee and hip joints, while improving your reaction time.

SilverSneakers® Splash

This is a total body aqua conditioning class! Splash focuses on increasing agility, range of movement and cardiovascular conditioning. Participants use a kickboard in a safe format. No swimming ability required

Dance Classes

Line Dancing

This class is for anyone who wants to learn how to line dance to various kinds of music; country, cha-cha, waltzes, polkas, etc. All ages are welcome and there is no residency requirement. The fee is just $2.50 per class.

Adaptive Recreation Program

The Adaptive Recreation Program formally known as A.S.K. is an award-winning series of recreational programs, geared towards serving individuals with disabilities of all ages, regardless of residency. Since 1991, under the direction of Middleburg Heights Recreation Department staff, the participants have been taught the fundamentals of sports, good sportsmanship and how to have FUN! Thanks to the generosity of the Kiwanis Club, Women’s Club and other local support, this innovative program continues our commitment to provide recreation activities to individuals of all abilities with the emphasis of fun & learning.

Programs/Classes FAQs

How old do you have to be to use the fitness area?

Children between the ages of 12-14 will be allowed to use the Nautilus & Cardio equipment if they are accompanied and supervised by an adult. No one under the age of 15 is allowed in the Free Weight area. No child under the age of 12 will be allowed on the track unless accompanied & supervised by an adult.

How many laps constitute a mile on the track?

Approximately 12 laps comprise one mile if you are in the outermost lane.

How long can I exercise on a piece of equipment?

During busy hours, we ask that you limit your time on a particular piece of equipment to 30 minutes.
