Mayor Gary W. Starr and all members of Middleburg Heights City Council presented two proclamations this past Tuesday for students that stood out academically and athletically. Aaron Owens was recognized for his athletic achievements and Abigail Richard was recognized for her academic achievements. Both are recent graduates of Midpark High School and received the proclamations on behalf of the city. They also designated days of honor for each and a day that would be named on behalf of them in the city of Middleburg Heights. On June 26, 2013, the day was designated as “Aaron Owens Day” and June 27, 2013 was designated as “Abigail Richard Day.”
Aaron Owens is an accomplished athlete who broke numerous records at Midpark High School. In 2012, Aaron broke the Midpark pole vaulting record five times. In 2013, amazingly, he broke that same record four more times, resulting in an incredible personal record of 16 feet four inches. In 2013, Aaron won the Ohio State pole vault competition. Not only was Owens astounding at track, but in 2012 he won the Midpark’s Football Defensive MVP award! Aaron Owens was the first and last –State Division 1 Champion in Pole Vaulting from Midpark High School.
Abigail Richard is a graduate from Midpark High School where she was in the top ten of her class. She has also been chosen as a Creative Learning Intern for the highly competitive Cleveland Clinic summer internship program. Her artwork has been selected for the Cleveland Clinic’s eXpressions Program and displayed at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
