Students going to school this fall in Middleburg Heights that cannot afford school supplies are at a terrible disadvantage. That’s why on Friday, August 3, 2018, Mayor Gary W. Starr teamed up with Channel 19 News, the Volunteers of America and Marc’s to collect backpacks and school supplies for children in Middleburg Heights and the Northeast Ohio area.
As Mayor Starr stated “going to school is difficult today with the goal of trying to obtain a quality education, and students should not be at a disadvantage by not having the necessary school supplies and tools to achieve a quality education”. According to the Volunteers of America representative, the Middleburg Heights event at Southland on August 3, 2018, was one of their largest collections of school supplies in their 7 year history of Operation Backpack. Mayor Starr was glad to play a small role in helping the students at Big Creek Elementary, Middleburg Heights Middle School, Polaris Career Center and St. Bartholomew Academy.
Operation Backpack is not over and there are still many children that need our help. For more information, and to donate to Operation Backpack, please visit: www.operationbackpackGO.org.
