This Monday the citizens of Middleburg Heights and throughout the entire world proudly honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on his birthday, Monday, January 20. Dr. King created an everlasting legacy devoted to public and civil service and the advancement of civil rights. He believed in a nation of freedom and justice for all, and challenged all citizens to help build a perfect union and live up to the purpose and potential of America.
Mayor Gary W. Starr and all members of Middleburg Heights City Council encouraged each citizen of Middleburg Heights to help promote Dr. King’s dream of peace and harmony in each of our neighborhoods and throughout the city by living by his words.
Allow us to use the words spoken by Dr. King, he urged:
“A dream of equality of opportunity; of privilege and property widely distributed; a dream of a land where men will not take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few; a dream of a land where men do not argue that the color of a man’s skin determines the content of his character; a dream of a place whereall our gifts and resources are held not for ourselves alone but as instruments of service for the rest of humanity; the dream of a country where every man will respect the dignity and worth of all human personality, and men will dare to live together as brothers—that is the dream.”
