Mayor Gary W. Starr delivered his state of the city address to a crowd of over 160 at the Middleburg Heights Chamber of Commerce meeting on May 5, 2016.
Mayor Starr described plans for the new Middleburg Heights library, which will be completed by December 2017. The new library will be constructed on the Middleburg Heights commons area on Bagley Road near Craigmere Road. This project will serve to anchor the commons site which, in total, is 34 acres of land that will be preserved for public use and green space.
Mayor Starr also discussed current business development projects in Middleburg Heights. In 2015, the direct efforts of Mayor Starr, City Council, and the Economic Development Department attracted over 40 new businesses to Middleburg Heights and created over 650 new jobs in the city.
Mayor Starr also reported that the city finances continue to be strong and stable due to sound fiscal management practices. As a result of continued robust business growth and solid fiscal management, Middleburg Heights has weathered the great recession without having to raise taxes or make any layoffs or cuts in city services.
