The Middleburg Heights Recreation Department has earned a 1st place Award of Excellence from the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association for 2017 in the Special Population category for the quality and success of our Adapted Swim Program that was started over 60 years ago by the Middleburg Heights Women’s Club! Special thanks to the aquatics staff and their leadership under Director, Jessica Rockhill and the generous financial and volunteer support of the Middleburg Heights Women’s Club.

This honor brings pride to not only the Women’s Club who have supported this program for many years, but also to the Recreation Department who provides the pool and lifeguards to help train the participants.

The Adapted Swim Program uses one-to-one instruction for those with physical, emotional or learning disabilities that would ordinarily preclude them from learning to swim and enjoying aquatic facilities. We have served 172 individuals, 6 of whom have risen to compete and place in the Ohio Special Olympic Games.
