FROM THE DESK OF MAYOR STARR:
Please join us on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 10:30 at the Middleburg Heights Community Center for the city’s 21st annual Memorial Day Ceremony. The events planned for this year’s ceremony will do much to honor the memory of those who lost their lives defending our freedom. All residents and non- residents are welcome to attend.
We are also pleased to announce that this year’s ceremony will feature Judge Michael E. Jackson as our keynote speaker. Jackson is a highly decorated Vietnam War veteran and has recently been elected as a Judge in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas. Following Judge Jackson will be a special musical presentation, which will include bagpipes, a gun salute, the playing of “Taps,” as well as a flag ceremony.
Our keynote speaker is highly respected in the legal and veteran community; before serving as a Judge in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, Jackson served with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. During the war, Jackson was a combat officer, commanded a Marine platoon as a 2nd Lieutenant, and commanded a Marine company as a 1st Lieutenant. For valor in combat, he was awarded two Bronze Stars, the Navy Commendation Award, two Vietnamese Crosses of Gallantry, and the Purple Heart. On top of his impressive time in the military, Jackson is also a highly educated man. Prior to joining the Marines, he earned his undergraduate degree at Ohio University and following his time in the military, Jackson graduated with honors from Chicago–Kent/Illinois Institute of Technology.
We invite you to take part in this year’s Middleburg Heights Memorial Day Ceremony, as Judge Jackson and other presentations will act as an important reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by United States servicemen and women.
