Have you ever wondered what happens to the recycling material that is collected weekly?
All recycled materials that are collected in Middleburg Heights end up at the Republic Services Lorain County Resource Recovery Complex in Oberlin, Ohio. On October 3, 2013, Councilman David Bortolotto and Service Director James Herron attended a tour of the Republic Services Resource Material Facility and the adjacent Lorain County landfill sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District. They were able to see how the Resource Recovery Facility diverts 250 tons of waste from the landfill each day and is able to recycle materials such as Plastic Food and Beverage containers, Milk Cartons, and Cardboard.
Why is it important for all of us to Recycle?
Recycling is not only good for the environment but it helps to divert items that would normally be put into the landfill. There are no landfills left operating in Cuyahoga County and the closest landfill is the Republic Lorain County landfill. Future landfills will likely be located even further from Middleburg Heights and our costs will only increase to properly dispose of our trash.
