Mayor Gary W. Starr is pleased to announce that the city of Middleburg Heights has just been presented a distinguished award for financial accounting  by the auditor of the state of Ohio.   State auditor David Yost was in Middleburg Heights and came to City Hall to present the award on Friday, September 26, 2014 to Jason Stewart, CPA, and Middleburg Heights Chief Financial Officer.

Mayor Starr said, “I am most pleased of the collaborative participation and diligent work of Middleburg Heights City Council, our entire finance department and myself that has resulted in this significant award from the state of Ohio.  We have consistently, over a long period of time, maintained these financial standards in order to protect our taxpayer’s dollars.”

“Middleburg Heights has followed through for its citizens,” Auditor Yost said. “I am proud to present this city with the Auditor of State Award with Distinction.”

The Auditor of State Award is presented to local governments and school districts upon the completion of a financial audit.  Entities that receive the award meet the following criteria of a “clean” audit report:

  • The entity must file timely financial reports with the Auditor of State’s office in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles);
  • The audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Single Audit findings or questioned costs;
  • The entity’s management letter contains no comments related to:
    o Ethics referrals
    o Questioned costs less than $10,000
    o Lack of timely report submission
    o Reconciliation
    o Failure to obtain a timely Single Audit
    o Findings for recovery less than $100
    o Public meetings or public records
