AWARD-WINNING COMMUNITY CENTER CELEBRATES ITS 18TH ANNIVERSARY BY BEING PAID IN FULL

Mayor Gary W. Starr, Carl Guarnieri, the former Recreation Director, and City Council, set out to make a dream come true in 1990, and as of December 2018, that dream will be fulfilled as the Community Center will be paid in full.

After naming Carl Guarnieri the first full-time Recreation Director for the city in the spring of 1990, the Mayor shared his vision of expanding and improving the recreational program by building a brand new, state of the art, Community Center. The plan also included creating new award-winning programs that could be offered to the community, while also updating and building new sports fields for all age groups.

The residents had the first opportunity to see all of the planning come to life when the Middleburg Heights Community Center officially opened its doors on June 1, 2000, and was shortly thereafter named “Best Recreational Facility in Ohio”.

The Middleburg Heights Community Center will endure as a focal point of pride and admiration for the city as it continues to win awards and bring the community together through a variety of special events, programs, and gatherings throughout the year.
