ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: UPDATES ON NEW DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
Here’s a brief update on what’s happening and what to expect in the coming months.
Site of the former Sears in Middleburg Heights
The demolition of the former Middleburg Heights Sears is expected to be complete by the first week of August. Filling the massive 150,000 square-foot basement of the building, which requires over 100,000 cubic yards of clean fill dirt, is expected to be completed by the end of October.

Construction on the highly anticipated Meijer store in Middleburg Heights is expected to begin in Spring 2026. This new supercenter will feature over 70,000 square feet of general merchandise alongside a full grocery selection, providing a one-stop shopping experience for residents. Plans also include a 20,000-square-foot garden center and an on-site Meijer Express offering fuel and convenience store items. The new Meijer is projected to bring more than 300 new jobs to the city—another exciting step forward in Middleburg Heights’ continued growth.
MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
Progress continues on the transformation of the Southland area – demolition of the former Burlington building is scheduled to begin in August 2025. The demolition is expected to be completed by November 2025, making way for the new mixed-use development. Look for future updates on this project in the coming months.

Honda of Middleburg Heights
The massive all-new 64,000 sq. ft. Honda of Middleburg Heights at 7700 Pearl Road is now open, welcoming over 100 employees. This impressive new building features a large showroom and state-of-the-art service center.
Polaris Career Center in Middleburg Heights.
Construction is progressing on schedule for the new 28,000 square-foot addition to Polaris Career Center in Middleburg Heights. The addition will house lab and classroom space for the new Polaris Engineering, Robotics and Automation (ERA) Program. Polaris was awarded an $11.6 million grant from the State of Ohio for the addition and program. Polaris Career Center is truly an outstanding institution and community asset that provides quality, key training and credentials for middle and high school students and adult learners.
The new 2,100 square-foot Popeyes at 17505 Bagley Road, at Interstate-71, in Middleburg Heights is now expected to open in August.

Dairy Deli 2.0
Construction is almost complete on the new Dairy Deli at the corner of Engle and Sheldon Roads in Middleburg Heights! The business hopes to reopen in early August. The beautiful new building and site improvements have transformed this gateway to Middleburg Heights!

Construction is progressing on an addition to a portion of the former movie theater building at Middleburg Towne Square, on Bagley Road in Middleburg Heights, to accommodate a new 18,000 square-foot Planet Fitness.
Potbelly Sandwich Works will open in August at 6842 Pearl Road in Middleburg Heights! Potbelly’s menu features a variety of sandwiches, many served hot, as well as soups, shakes, smoothies, potato chips, and cookies.
