Smith Road Southland Update

Construction for the Smith Road Southland Streetscaping Project is progressing well ahead of schedule. The intermediate asphalt course is being paved this week and two-way traffic is expected to be restored next week for winter construction shut down. This transformational project consists of the reconstruction of Smith Road between West 130th Street and Pearl Road and is one aspect of the Middleburg Heights Southland Redevelopment Initiative. Construction will begin on the final phase of the streetscaping project in early Spring, 2025.

The final phase of the Smith Road Southland Streetscaping project will consist of the construction of a multiuse trail, landscaped median and treelawn, ornamental lighting and on-street parking.

The 10 foot wide multiuse trail will extend from W. 130th to Pearl Road. Additionally, the City will install a 6 foot wide sidewalk on the east side of Smith Road from Pearl Road to the Big Creek Parkway ultimately connecting the multiuse trail to the Metroparks.

The proposed Smith Road streetscape will contribute to the desired safety, aesthetics and traffic calming effects that our community seeks. This will help create a safe place for all users, including pedestrian and bike traffic to eventually live, work and shop in the redeveloped Southland District.
