August Update: Abram Creek/Big Creek Parkway Detention Basins Project

The City of Middleburg Heights and the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) are working together to find solutions to lessen flooding along Big Creek Parkway and improve the storm water drainage on Mohawk Trail, Shawnee Trail, Old Pleasant Valley Road, Uhlin Drive and Robert Drive. The NEORSD is providing the City of Middleburg Heights $3.8 million to construct three new stormwater detention basins located on the south side of Big Creek Parkway between Bagley Road and Smith Road. The City of Middleburg Heights is contributing $1.9 million and the total project cost is estimated at $5.7 million.

There is much work to accomplish including property acquisition for Basin 1, receiving final permit approvals from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Ohio EPA, finalizing the stormwater basin engineering plans, coordinating work with the Cleveland Metroparks, and publicly bidding the projects.

August 2022 Project Update:

All properties have been acquired for Basin 2 and Basin 3. Two houses on Pearl Road for Basin 2 are scheduled for demolition. Wetland mitigation credits were recently purchased for all the basins and permit requests have been submitted to the Ohio EPA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for Basin 2 and 3. The goal is to have Basin 3 bid in early Spring 2023 and potentially bidding Basin 2 in Summer 2023 but this timeline is contingent on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Ohio EPA formal approvals.
