Ray Guttmann, a longtime council member and active resident of Middleburg Heights died peacefully on December 29th, 2019 at 92 years old. He dedicated 36 years of his life as a distinguished Middleburg Heights councilman and council president from 1970-2017.
Mayor Matthew Castelli and City Council members observed a moment of silence before honoring Guttmann’s life at their January 14th, 2020 meeting with Guttmann’s family in attendance. The City honored Guttmann’s service by gifting the family a special gavel to commemorate his dedication to the city he loved and a plaque of the city seal that will be affixed to Guttmann’s headstone.
“Ray Guttmann’s legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him,” Castelli said. “He loved Middleburg Heights and serving the community. The way he was able to serve for so long … is really inspirational to all of us.”
