Youth Fitness Classes

Tae Kwon Do

The first-time student should sign up for Tae Kwon Do, the art of self-defense using the hands and feet. The instructor is a 6th degree black belt master instructor and a 1st degree black belt in judo and is committed to focusing on the individual needs of each child. There is a uniform cost. Little Stars Gymnasticsrec35

This program is for girls & boys ages 18 months to 10 years old who are interested in learning the important fundamental skills of gymnastics. No prior experience is necessary! Activities such as balance beam, single bar, obstacle course & basic tumbling will be taught! The instructor, Sophia Boyk, allstargym@att.net, is a USAG safety certified gymnastics instructor with over 17 years of teaching experience. Princess Ballet Classes

This class will incorporate the fundamentals of ballet in a warm, imaginative & supportive atmosphere. The class will combine classical ballet movements with magic wands that will foster your child's imagination. Your little princess will also have the opportunity to dress up in her favorite princess outfit! Fitness Area

Our 3,300 square foot Fitness Area contains over 100 pieces of circuit training, free weights and plate loaded equipment. We also have a "cardio-theatre" system for watching TV while you're working out and a fully staffed fitness desk, complete with an AED machine for your safety.

Fitness attendants are glad to "show you the ropes." Members may track their progress on individually designed "workout logs" available at the desk. We also have certified personal trainers on staff to help you tailor your workout to your own needs!

Adult Classes

Ultra Cycle

This 45-minute class is a challenging, fat-blasting workout that will take you thru leg sculpting hills and speed & resistance interval flats. Extreme Pump It Up Fitness

Jazzercise

The original dance exercise phenomenon! Each class offers a blend of jazz dance and exercise science set to your favorite music: Top 40, jazz, country, funk and the classics. Tai Chi Chih

Kickbox Bootcamp

This is a cardio & strength training workouts set to heart-pumping music fused with a blend of cardio-dance, kickboxing and pilates. The focus is on shaping and toning the lower body and midsection. Baby Boot Camp by Strollfit

Barre Intensity

This class combines attributes of Pilates, dance and functional fitness training. We incorporate small isolated movement to fatigue the muscles, large range motion to elevate the heart rate and sequencing that works the upper and lower body to make every minute count. SilverSneakers®

Individuals 65 & over who have Medicare coverage through their insurance company are eligible to take fitness classes for FREE. All others pay just $2 per class ($3 per class in January, 2016)!

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills.Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

SilverSneakers® Circuit

Combine fun and fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength work using hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, head to toe stretching, and complete relaxation in a comfortable position.

SilverSneakers® Yoga

YogaStretch will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.

SilverSneakers® Splash

Activate your aqua urge for variety! SilverSplash offers lots of fun and shallow water moves to improve agility, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. No swimming ability is required, and a special SilverSneakers kickboard is used to develop strength, balance and coordination.

Classes meet: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday from 2 to 2:50 p.m. (except during summer)

Dance Classes

Line Dancing

This class is for anyone who wants to learn how to line dance to various kinds of music; country, cha-cha, waltzes, polkas, etc. All ages are welcome and there is no residency requirement. The fee is just $2.50 per class.

Kidszone Activities, Camps & Clubs

Our Kidszone Activities mission is to provide a wide variety of programs from toddlers through “tweens”. From academic to social programs, we provide a positive and healthy environment for today’s kids!

All classes are open to Non-Residents. Child must be required age by start of class. No refund or transfers after the first day of class. If approved by the Kidszone Director, before the first class: a refund or credit for future class (each with a $15 processing fee of the original total) will be deducted.

Kidszone registrations for Fall 2015 (including the very popular Kids Korner program) are available NOW!

Kids Korner

Enroll your child in a fun, safe, structured learning environment for kids in! Weekly themes, activity sheets, computer time, fine & gross motor skills all integrated to enhance early learning! Child(ren) should be able to sit and listen to a short story, feel comfortable holding a writing utensil and follow simple instructions. Snacks are permitted (see enrollment receipt). Does not need to be potty trained but parent will be notified if bathroom assistance is needed. Class meets for 17 weeks. Click here for a detailed description of the class.

Ages: 3-5 (must be 3 by first day of class enrolled in)

Dates/Fees: Tue. & Thur. from 1/13-5/14 for $408 (residents and members) & $476 (non-residents). There is a 2 payment option --- First 1/2 of payment due upon enrollment - second payment end of February.

Saturday Sitters

Parents enjoy a night out! Drop your child off at "our house". 4 hours of fun! The night includes gym, craft, movie and pizza party. (Must be potty trained to attend-no pull-up permitted).  >

Jr. Sitters

Are you 9-13 years old from the same family of those enrolled in Saturday Sitters? Maybe you are looking for some "sitting" experience? Consider enrolling in our Jr. Sitters Program. Have fun and lend a helping hand.

Friday Fun Nights

Hang out with friends! Toss the football, shoot hoops, play volleyball, swim & play Xbox Kinect on a 5ft x 8ft screen in the Rec-Room. Pizza and drink will be provided during these 4 hours of fun monitored by staff.  You are premitted to bring extra money for snack bar but it is not necessary. No Refunds or Transfers

Open Gym for Runners/Walkers

Come play using all of our toys in the multi-purpose gym! Parents can work out or relax in the center while their kids are busy at play. NO registration required-show up that day for activity.  Please try not to arrive any later than 10:15 am. Child should be able to stay comfortably without parent as one-on-one supervision cannot be administered and the MUST HAVE MASTERED WALKING FOR SAFETY REASONS. No flip flops, boots or socks permitted - only soft-soled shoes. It is recommended that a punchcard be purchased for $18 for (10) visits. No class when Berea City Schools are off on Mon., Feb. 15, Mon., March 21 & Mon., March 28 or if Berea City Schools are closed due to inclement weather.

Move & Groove

Experience learning through song & dance! Enroll in this activity that will enhance necessary skills for young learners. Time provided for “instrument play”, listening to various types of music and free play with friends. No class when Berea City Schools are off on Wed., March 23 or if Berea City Schools are closed due to inclement weather.

Ages: 2 1/2-4 years

Day: Wednesday, 9/2-12/9

Circle Time

The perfect recipe for growth; add fine motor skills (tracing and cutting) with a bit of rhyming & a dash of seasonal crafts. Tap it all off with a circle of friends! This activity is a great addition to our other preschool classes offered on Monday (Explore and More and Leading with Reading) and Tuesday/Thursday (Kids Korner). No class when Berea City Schools are off on Wed., March 23 or if Berea City Schools are closed due to inclement weather.

Learning Letters

Day: Tuesday/Thursday, 1/27-5/12

Leading with Reading

Create a passion for reading through group discussions, structured activities and recognizing simple sight words with weekly short stories. The class focuses on verbal instruction. Enroll in Explore and More prior to this activity for a complete day of early learning. No class when Berea City Schools are off on Mon., Feb. 15, Mon., March 21 & Mon., March 28 or if Berea City Schools are closed due to inclement weather.

Explore & More

Hands on fun in this activity!  Join friends, ask questions, make predictions and see what happens with simple experiments.  Short amount of free time provided too!  Great for the child with a curious spirit! Pair this class with Leading with Reading for a complete day of early learning. No class when Berea City Schools are off on Mon., Feb. 15, Mon., March 21 & Mon., March 28 or if Berea City Schools are closed due to inclement weather.

Summer Camps

We offer daytime camps in June and July every summer to keep the kids busy with fun, safe and educational activities. Registrations will start on Monday, April 4th. You can sign up for one, two, three, four, five or ALL 6 weeks!

Ages: K-5 years (the child must be 5 by the first day of the camp). We also have spots for Jr. Counselors (grades 6-8)

Dates:  Tuesdays & Thursdays on June 14 & 16, June 21 & 23, June 28 & 30, July 12 & 14, July 19 & 21 and July 26 & 28.

Time: 9 am-2 pm    

Fee: $30 per week for residents/members & $40 for non-residents (Grades K-5). $15 per week for residents/members & $25 per week for non-residents (Grades 6-8)

Kidszone Child Care

rec35The community center is happy to provide child care services to members and guests using the center. The Kidszone room is available for children ages newborn through 9 years.

The fee is $2 per hour. Each additional sibling costs $1 per hour (full hour will be charged regardless of the duration of stay). Punch cards valued at $20 can be purchased for $18 in The Kidszone Room. The parent/guardian must be physically in the center while the child is in The Kidszone area.

Hours for child care are:

  • Monday-Friday from 9:00 to 11 a.m. and 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Child care is not available on Sundays.

Programs/Classes FAQs

How old do you have to be to use the fitness area?

Children between the ages of 12-14 will be allowed to use the Nautilus & Cardio equipment if they are accompanied and supervised by an adult. No one under the age of 15 is allowed in the Free Weight area. No child under the age of 12 will be allowed on the track unless accompanied & supervised by an adult.

How many laps constitute a mile on the track?

Approximately 12 laps comprise one mile if you are in the outermost lane.

How long can I exercise on a piece of equipment?

During busy hours, we ask that you limit your time on a particular piece of equipment to 30 minutes.
