The mayor represents Middleburg Heights residents as the elected chief executive officer of our city and as the official and ceremonial head of our city government

He is responsible for supervising the administration of all departments and divisions of our city government, with the exception of City Council and the Clerk of Council.

The mayor serves a four-year term of office. He must be a resident of the city and must serve in a full-time capacity.

Executive Powers & Duties

The Mayor:

  • Is the chief conservator of the peace in the city and is responsible for ensuring that all laws, ordinances and resolutions are enforced.
  • Makes all appointments provided for by law, by city ordinance, or by the city charter.
  • Executes all contracts, conveyances, evidences of indebtedness and other instruments to which the city is a party.
  • Keeps city council advised of the condition and needs of the city.
  • Signs all ordinances and resolutions passed by city council, with the power to veto such ordinances and resolutions.

Legislative & Judicial Powers

  • The mayor is entitled to a seat in city council, but has no vote.
  • The mayor has the right to introduce ordinances and resolutions and to take part in the discussion of all matters coming before city council.
  • The mayor has all the judicial powers granted to mayors by the laws of the State of Ohio.
