For the second year, MetroHealth November Family Health Center in Middleburg Heights organized and sponsored the “Get Moving Mondays” Walking Club Program at Ford Intermediate School. This year, 99 students participated to walk a combined 4,169,879 steps, or 2,085 miles. That is the equivalent of walking one way from Ford Intermediate School to Las Vegas, Nevada! The program has students walking for 30 minutes prior to the start of school each Monday school is in session from October 5, 2015 through April 18, 2016. Students recorded their weekly steps and received foot-shaped charms for each milestone they achieved. Thirteen students reached at least 70,000 steps for the program. The highest number of steps recorded by a student was 107,250 steps.
Many parents also regularly attended the program to walk with their sons and daughters throughout the year. All participating students received a t-shirt acknowledging their commitment to the program. Students chose pink, through a vote, as the color for the shirts this year. Special thanks to MetroHealth November Family Health Center in Middleburg Heights and the administration and staff of Ford Intermediate School for their efforts and coordination to make this program available to the students and parents again this year.
