MAYOR STARR RECONFIRMS CITY’S ONGOING COMMITMENT TO PROTECTING STUDENTS, PUBLIC SAFETY

Looking back to a major safety initiative undertaken in 2013, Mayor Gary W. Starr reminds residents that public safety in our buildings continues to be the number one priority for city officials.

What was important two years ago – taking measures, in wake of the Sandy Hook school shootings, to protect the children at the public and private schools in Middleburg Heights – remains important today.

Through “Operation Protect Our Children,” implemented at the beginning of the 2014-15 school year, the city has taken all the necessary steps possible to address any similar situation that may occur.

Operation Protect Our Children was developed under the guidance of two former Secret Service directors hired for that express purpose by the city. Because of this work, a complete risk assessment and response strategy is now in place, and law enforcement and first responders have been provided the necessary equipment they need to respond effectively.
