Mayor Gary W. Starr is using the occasion of Earth Day today to issue a proclamation naming May 1, 2015, as Arbor Day in the City of Middleburg Heights. The city’s Arbor Day will be celebrated exactly one week after the national observance of Arbor Day.

In his proclamation Mayor Starr pointed out the many benefits that trees offer the city. They ranged from environmental (reducing erosion, moderating temperature, filtering the air) to economic (providing building materials, increasing property values, beautifying the community).

The mayor also called special attention to the Academy of Saint Bartholomew, which is joining with the City to observe Arbor Day with the planting of a tree.

Along with other city officials, Mayor Starr encourages residents to plant trees and to enjoy everything they provide.
